National standards for formaldehyde emission classification and indoor bearing limit guidelines for wood-based panels were issued

19-10-2022

According to the standards announcement issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation and the National Standards Commission on March 9 (No. 3 of 2021), GB/T 39600-2021 "Formaldehyde Emission Classification of wood-based Panels and Products" and GB/T 399598-2021 "Guide for Indoor Bearing Limit of Wood-based Panels based on the Limit Amount of Formaldehyde", managed by the National Technical Committee of Standardization on Wood-based Panels, were officially released and will be implemented on October 1, 2021.

The two standards, "Formaldehyde Emission Classification of Wood-based Panels and their Products" and "Guideline for Indoor Bearing Limit of Wood-based Panels Based on the Limit Amount of Formaldehyde", are the transformation and application of the research results of the "13th Five-Year Plan" national key Research and Development program "Wood Industry Energy Saving and Consumption Reduction and Production Safety Control Technology" (Project No. : 2016YFD0600700). The former is jointly completed by 50 units, such as Wood Industry Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Forestry and Wanhua Hexiang Board Industry Co., LTD., while the latter is jointly completed by 45 units, such as Wood Industry Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Forestry, Sophia Household Co., LTD., and Dehua Group Holding Co., LTD.

■ GB/T 39600 -- 2021 "Classification of Formaldehyde Emission from Wood-based Panels and Products"

The Formaldehyde Emission Classification of wood-based Panels and their Products stipulates the requirements, test methods and determination rules for the formaldehyde emission classification of wood-based panels and their products for indoor use. The standard for indoor use of wood-based panels and products in accordance with the limited value of formaldehyde release is divided into 3 levels, namely E1 (≤0.124mg/m³), E0 (≤0.050mg/m³) and ENF (≤0.025mg/m³). This standard is applicable to the formaldehyde emission classification of fiberboard, particleboard, plywood, joinery board, reconstituted decorative materials, laminated veneer materials, integrated materials, facial-based panels, wood flooring, wood wall panels, wood doors and other indoor wood-based panels and their products.

The standard is the mandatory national standard GB 18580-2017 "interior decoration decorates material to formaldehyde to release a set limit to" man-made board and its products in the elaboration and form a complete set, after the introduction of its release, can promote the enterprise production and promotion of man-made board and its products with different levels of environmental protection, to satisfy consumers more environmental protection, green demand of man-made board and its products, We will lead industrial technological progress and promote green development and industrial transformation and upgrading of wood-based panels and their products.

■ GB/T 39598 -- 2021 "Guidelines for Indoor Load Limits of wood-based Panels based on the limit Amount of Formaldehyde"

"Based on the limit the amount of formaldehyde indoor man-made board bearing set limit to guide is given based on the limit of formaldehyde release a quantity to man-made board indoor carry limited terms and definitions, basic principles, man-made board indoor bearing limited computing methods and key points that should be considered for information, suitable for furniture, cabinets, wood doors, wood panels, wooden floors and other wood products use man-made board bearing cap.

The promulation and implementation of this standard can provide guidance for the rational use of wood-based panels for consumer interior decoration, and is of great significance for protecting consumer health, eliminating indoor environmental pollution and promoting the healthy development of wood-based panels industry.
