Anti-mildew agent for MS sealant: Solves the problems of mold growth and failure of sealant at the source of the formula
MS glue (modified silane polyether sealant) enjoys environmental advantages such as no solvents, no formaldehyde, and no isocyanates, as well as characteristics like no contamination of the substrate, easy painting, and excellent weather resistance. It is widely used in kitchen and bathroom sealing, building doors and windows, automotive assembly, electronic and electrical products, etc. However, MS glue faces a common yet challenging problem - mold growth. In high-humidity environments such as kitchens and bathrooms, the surface of the sealant is prone to black spots and moldy patches, which not only affect the appearance but also may lead to a decline in sealing performance and aging and failure of the sealant.
Adding a dedicated anti-mold agent to the MS glue formula, which provides the glue with long-lasting anti-mold ability from the material source, is a mature technical path in the industry. Tianshi Lantian has launched a dedicated anti-mold solution for the MS glue system, focusing on broad-spectrum efficiency, system compatibility, and long-term stability as its core, to help upgrade the quality of sealant products.
01 Why does MS glue need a dedicated anti-mold agent
The causes of mold growth in MS glue
The mold growth risk of MS glue mainly stems from its formula characteristics and usage environment:
The organic components in the formula provide nutrients: MS glue uses modified silane polyether as the base material, and the formula contains plasticizers, resins, etc. Organic components in humid conditions can become a carbon source for mold growth.
High-humidity usage environment: Kitchen, bathroom, etc. are in a high-humidity state for a long time, with relative humidity often exceeding 70%, providing ideal conditions for black Aspergillus, green mold, etc. to grow.
Accumulation of surface dirt: The surface of the sealant is often in contact with soap water, oil stains, skin cells, etc. in organic matter, and in a humid environment, it interacts with mold, accelerating the formation of mold spots.
The hazards caused by mold growth
Appearance deterioration: Black spots and moldy patches appear on the surface of the sealant, seriously affecting the overall appearance of the kitchen and bathroom.
Sealing performance decline: Mold erosion of the sealant surface may lead to a decrease in the elasticity of the sealant, cracking, and a decline in sealing effect.
Health risks: Mold spores released may affect indoor air quality, posing health risks to sensitive individuals.
Increased after-sales complaints: Mold is one of the most common quality complaints for MS glue products, directly affecting the brand reputation.
02 Core technical requirements of anti-mold agents for MS glue
Compatibility with the MS glue system
The MS glue formula is complex, and the anti-mold agent needs to be compatible with the modified silane polyether base material, plasticizers, catalysts, crosslinking agents, etc. without causing gelation, color change, or abnormal curing. Dalian Tianwei anti-mold agent is highly compatible with the MS glue system and does not affect the curing speed, bonding strength, and elasticity of the glue.
High-temperature resistance and long-term stability
MS glue production involves high-temperature mixing processes (temperatures can reach 100-150°C), and the anti-mold agent needs to remain stable and not decompose at this temperature. Tianshi Lantian anti-mold agent has a decomposition temperature much higher than the processing temperature of MS glue, maintaining activity and not losing effectiveness during mixing and curing.
No precipitation or migration
The anti-mold components of MS glue need to be stably present within the glue, without precipitating, migrating, or frosting, to maintain anti-mold effect for a long time. Dalian Tianwei anti-mold agent is firmly combined with the MS glue base material and does not lose its effectiveness due to moisture or wiping.
Anti-mold grade requirements
The anti-mold performance of MS glue needs to be tested according to standards such as GB/T 1741 and ASTM G21, and the anti-mold grade needs to reach level 0 (no visible mold growth) as the highest standard.
