Dermis anti-mildew agent: A complete chain solution for anti-mildew from raw skin to finished product
Leather (natural leather) is made by processing animal skins through complex processes such as tanning, greasing, and finishing. It is rich in nutrients like collagen, lipids, and amino acids. Its porous and moisture-absorbing structure makes it prone to mold growth in humid environments (with humidity above 70%). Under such conditions, molds such as Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, and Penicillium can easily proliferate, causing mold spots, blue discoloration, color changes, hardening, and unpleasant odors on the leather surface. In severe cases, it can even corrode the leather fibers, resulting in irreversible physical performance loss and directly affecting the product grade and commercial value.Industry data shows that the mold rate of leather in stock in Shanghai and Beijing is generally 20%, and in severe cases, it can reach 40%-50%.The mold events of exported and sold leather even seriously affect the foreign trade image.
Dalian Tianwei has launched a series of special anti-mold and antibacterial agents for different processing stages of the leather industry, with the core technology of nano silver-zinc composite antibacterial technology, covering the entire chain of protection from raw skin preservation, tanning processing, leather storage, and finished product finishing. The anti-mold level can reach 0 grade, helping leather processing enterprises reduce losses and ensure export quality.
Why do leathers need special anti-mold agents,The causes of mold growth in leathers
Leathers undergo complex chemical processing from raw skins to finished products, but the final products still retain the porous structure of collagen fibers, which easily absorb moisture and organic substances, providing a breeding ground for mold growth. Different processing stages face different microbial risks:
Raw skin/water immersion process: Raw skins are rich in proteins and are easily eroded by bacteria during water washing and water immersion processes. Improper preservation can cause enlarged pores, aggravated blood veins, degradation of leather, loose and wrinkled texture, weakened dyeing ability, and reduction of physical properties.
Blue wet skin/leather storage: After chrome tanning, blue wet leather is very susceptible to mold invasion due to moisture and changes in pH value. The red spots on the surface of blue wet leather are a very concern for leather processing enterprises, not only affecting the subsequent dyeing, but also the severe red spots can affect the quality and sales of blue wet leather. From mold discoloration to affecting subsequent dyeing and finishing processes, it seriously reduces the leather grade.
Finished leather storage and transportation: Even after finishing, finished leathers still face high humidity threats during storage and maritime transportation. Common molds on leather include Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium citrinum,Micrococcus luteus, and green wood mold.
