Dry powder fungicide for waterproof mortar
Waterproof mortar is widely used in waterproofing projects in basements, bathrooms, kitchens, swimming pools, and exterior walls in environments that are constantly damp. However, while waterproof mortar has a waterproof function, its cement-based porous structure and organic components such as cellulose ethers and latex powder in the formula are prone to become breeding grounds for mold fungi under continuous high humidity conditions.Mold fungi grow on the surface and inside the mortar, causing the wall to turn black, develop spots, and produce odors. In severe cases, it can affect the integrity and aesthetic appearance of the waterproof layer.
Adding a special dry powder anti-mold agent at the formula stage to endow the mortar with long-lasting anti-mold capabilities is a mature technical path in the industry. Dalian Tianwei Chemical has launched a special dry powder anti-mold solution for the dry powder mixing process of waterproof mortar and the alkaline system of cement-based materials, with a broad-spectrum, highly efficient, alkali-resistant stability, and dry powder compatibility as the core. The anti-mold grade can reach 0 level, helping to upgrade the quality of waterproof mortar products.
01 Why does waterproof mortar need a special anti-mold agent
Microbial risks faced by waterproof mortar
Although waterproof mortar mainly has the function of "waterproofing", it still faces multiple microbial threats in actual use:
Long-term damp environment: Basements, bathrooms, swimming pools, etc. are in a high-humidity state for a long time, and the mortar surface is prone to adsorbing moisture, providing humidity conditions for mold growth.
Organic components in the formula provide nutrients: The organic additives such as cellulose ethers, re-dispersible latex powder, and hydrophobic agents in the waterproof mortar formula become carbon sources for mold reproduction under humid conditions.
Cement-based porous structure: The micro-porous structure formed after the mortar solidifies becomes a hiding place for mold spores in the damp environment. Once the conditions are suitable, they can germinate and reproduce.
Consequences without anti-mold agent
Appearance deterioration: Black spots and mold spots appear on the mortar surface, affecting the overall quality and aesthetics of the waterproofing project
Performance decline: Mold fungi erode the mortar surface, which may cause the waterproof layer to flake off and crack, affecting the waterproof effect
Health risks: Mold spores released affect indoor air quality, posing health risks to sensitive individuals
Increased maintenance costs: After mold growth, it is necessary to remove and redo, increasing maintenance costs
02 Core technical requirements for anti-mold agents for waterproof mortar
Alkali resistance - the first threshold for selection
Waterproof mortar uses cement as the main cementitious material, which becomes strongly alkaline (pH can reach 12-13) after being mixed with water. Ordinary anti-mold agents may decompose and lose effectiveness in alkaline environments, requiring a special alkali-resistant formula. Dalian Tianwei 3Q-302 has a pH range of 2-13, perfectly adapting to the strong alkalinity of cement-based materials, maintaining stable activity during cement hydration.
Adaptability of dry powder mixing process
Waterproof mortar is produced in dry powder form and completed through the powder mixing process. The anti-mold agent needs to be directly mixed with cement, quartz sand, cellulose ethers, and other powder materials, evenly dispersed. Dalian Tianwei 3Q-302 is a gray-white ultra-fine powder, which can be directly added in the mixing barrel and stirred evenly.
No change in mortar performance
Adding the anti-mold agent should not affect the core indicators such as bonding strength, anti-seepage performance, and compressive strength of the waterproof mortar, and should not cause the mortar to change color or break up.
